Launch of the Estonian Circular Bioeconomy HUB, november 2024
The Estonian national Bioeconomy HUB is built in 2024 upon the expertise of the interdisciplinary Centre of Bioeconomy at the Estonian University of Life Sciences, established in 2017.
The Centre of Bioeconomy focuses on fostering interdisciplinary collaboration within the university's structural units and with other universities, research institutions, companies, and organizations both in Estonia and internationally. Its aims include initiating and coordinating interdisciplinary research, developing innovative technologies, securing additional financing opportunities, and organizing seminars, international conferences, public discussions, and other scientific events in the field of bioeconomy.
Given the Centre's experience and the BIOEAST initiative's focus on establishing eleven national bioeconomy HUBs, Estonian national HUB was created with the support of Estonian BIOEAST national contact point from Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture.
The BIOEAST initiative aims to support the development of knowledge-based circular bioeconomies to enhance inclusive growth, create new value-added jobs, especially in rural areas, and maintain or strengthen environmental sustainability READ MORE HERE.
BIOEAST initiative also seeks to establish a strategic research and innovation framework, promote synergies to enhance EU science-policy dialogue, and foster cooperation among stakeholders READ MORE HERE.
The creation of the Estonian Circular Bioeconomy HUB is supported by the BOOST4BIOEAST project.
BOOST4BIOEAST project aims to empower national stakeholders in Central Eastern European and Baltic countries to develop comprehensive national bioeconomy action plans, establish enduring structures for cooperation, and create platforms for dialogue at both national and macro-regional levels. Additionally, the project focuses on mapping bioeconomy competencies and biomass, advancing bioeconomy knowledge, and facilitating interactions between public and private funders and relevant business stakeholders to stimulate bioeconomy innovation and education.
